We all know at this stage, the reasons why we need to live a little more sustainably.
Today, across the Atlantic, a strange orange man is giving us yet another reason.
So about this sustainability thing....
Take these glasses for example. We are super proud to be working with an incredible Dutch company to sell these in Ireland. When we take our empty bottles to a bottle bank, the glass is then segregated, crushed and melted at around 1500 degrees centigrade, before being reformed as recycled glass.
But not with these glasses, that are already made and just need cutting.😊
And here is the kicker.
The energy used to fire these kilns around the world is usually based on a fossil fuel and these fossil fuels are usually sourced from outside Europe. Fracked gas from the US or perhaps oil from the middle east and previously piped gas from Russia. I don't know about you, but right now, I would rather keep my money locally.
By embracing the circular economy,♻️ our glasses use 80% less energy. The only energy involved is for washing and cutting the bottles. Perhaps it is time to think locally and keep our hard earned money in Europe.
The strange orange man might be walking away from everything that slows climate change, but we can do better. We are Europeans, we have seen Valencia flood, we have watched Greece burn and our agricultural systems falter, we know that climate change is real.
I am not saying that buying our incredibly stylish glassware instead of a glass made from virgin or recycled glass will save the world, but you won't be funding the fossil fuel industry and you will be keeping your money in our economy.
This isn't about protectionism, this is about common sense, style and doing a little less harm.
