Removing ghost nets from our seas.

Removing ghost nets from our seas.

We are very proud to be collaborating with Bracenet, a wonderful European company who specialise in recovering lost fishing nets and creating bracelets from them.

Every year 640,000 tonnes of fishing nets are lost at sea, where they hang, submerged, catching fish and mammals for decades. Non profit groups like "Healthy Seas" and "Ghost Diving" recover the nets. A Norwegian company "Nofir" (established to help create a circular economy in Norway) then cleans them. The cleaned nets are then delivered to Bracenet who turn them into bracelets, corporate lanyards and more.

Bracenet has upcycled more than 7 tonnes of nets and donated more than €150,000.00 to these two charities.

The latest net that they have recovered is a net from Bantry Bay in Cork.

We strongly believe that this kind of endeavour needs to be supported and are delighted to be the Irish retailer for Bracenet. We have secured access to the Bracelets made from the Bantry Bay net and are now retailing them here.

Sure, we can all buy a bracelet made of new polypropylene for less, but then we are part of the problem, not part of the solution. Each net removed from our seas, prevents, not only its eventual breakdown into micro-plastics, but also the loss of life of Dolphins, Whales, Seals, Gannets and of course, Fish.

Let's support enterprises like this, let's support a circular economy and lets support the idea of clean seas.
